To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit: °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. To go the other way, from Fahrenheit to Celsius: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. Unlike weight or length, temperature scales have different zero points, so the conversion needs both a multiplication and an addition/subtraction step.
| Celsius | Fahrenheit |
|---|---|
| −40°C | −40°F |
| −20°C | −4°F |
| 0°C | 32°F |
| 10°C | 50°F |
| 20°C | 68°F |
| 30°C | 86°F |
| 37°C | 98.6°F |
| 50°C | 122°F |
| 100°C | 212°F |
The Celsius scale is defined so that 0°C is water's freezing point and 100°C is its boiling point at sea level — a clean, decimal-friendly design. Fahrenheit's reference points (32°F freezing, 212°F boiling) come from an older 18th-century scale based on a brine mixture and approximate body temperature, which is why the numbers look less "round."
